The North Carolina Chamber urges its members to contact U.S. Senators Richard Burr and Kay Hagan to encourage them to VOTE AGAINST S. 3194, a bill that would mandate collective bargaining rights for public safety employees in all states. The bill is currently pending in the U.S. Senate – so take action now!
Regardless of current state laws, including North Carolina’s ban on collective bargaining by public employees, this bill would require that states provide collective bargaining for public safety workers. It would force state and local governments to adhere to a one-size-fits-all federal labor mandate, decreasing efficiency and driving up costs to taxpayers.
North Carolina currently prohibits collective bargaining by ALL government employees. This measure - if it passes - would supersede North Carolina law.
As states across the country grapple with severe budget deficits and private-sector unemployment continues to rise, it is the worst possible time for what is essentially an unfunded mandate on states pushed by public-sector unions. It is very important that North Carolina employers and employees, who depend on state and local governments for services, communicate with their elected representatives in Congress about this harmful legislation. Contact Senators Richard Burr and Kay Hagan as soon as possible to ask them to oppose S. 3194.
